died last year in Florida . Despite his young age - only 46 years old, he managed to build a business, love and earn decent money. Although the athlete failed to reach sporting heights, his name appeared in the media more often than other star athletes.
The athlete became famous for his artistic painting on his body, participation in scandalous stories and huge bazooka hands .
With a height of 183 cm, Pian’s parameters were:
- weight at the competition was almost 127 kg;
- between seasons the athlete gained 143 kg;
- biceps diameter was 61 cm;
- wrist circumference was almost 23 cm;
- forearms – 49 cm.
It was not possible to achieve such anthropometric data without the use of stimulants. The athlete himself never denied that at one time he pumped synthol into his muscles. According to the bodybuilder:
“Synthol is bullshit. Anyone who has tried it knows what I'm talking about."
What really happened
On August 25, 2020, the first message appeared on Instagram that Rich Piana had died . Information about Pian’s death and funeral was confirmed by Soviet Sport and official foreign sources. There are several versions about the cause of the bodybuilder’s death. According to his girlfriend, Chanel Jansen, the athlete fell in the bathroom on August 10 while getting a haircut, broke his head and lost consciousness. According to the hospital staff, the bodybuilder was in a coma for the last few days and died without regaining consciousness.
Compromising facts
After searching the house, police found a package of steroids, a lot of alcohol and opiates. As it turned out, the bodybuilder was taking “organic glass” - polymethyl methacrylate-methacrylate. It is used:
- In aesthetic medicine as lip fillers and scar correction.
- In shockproof windows.
- In outdoor advertising signs.
- For industrial purposes.
also versions of insulin overdose and improper use of hormones. According to his ex-wife, “he simply could not get out of the coma.”
Interesting facts from the biography
Height - 185 cm, Weight: competitive - 118 kg, off-season - 127 kg, Biceps - 57 cm, Wrist - 22.9 cm, Forearm - 49 cm, Bench press - 225 kg for 3 times, Squats - 265 kg for 2 repetitions, Barbell curls - 125 kg for 3 times, Deadlift - 265 kg.
Already at the age of 18, while preparing for competitions, Rich Piana became acquainted with steroids. As he himself claims, it all started with ordinary injections of testosterone and decadurobolin. These injections played their role, and after eight weeks his bench press increased by 25 kg, and his body weight by 12 kg, of which 10 kg was pure muscle mass. Thanks to these results, the following junior competitions were won.
Inspired by such quick success, Rich continued to experiment with his body. What did he not take during this time? According to unofficial data, there was even polymethyl methacrylate among the drugs used. It is a synthetic polymer used as a substitute for safety glass that is not excreted from the body. The use of this drug is prohibited by law in America, so Piana went to neighboring Mexico to undergo similar procedures. Even despite his talkative nature, Rich tries to keep silent about it. What Piana openly admitted was the use of synthol, a drug to increase muscles and give them an ideal shape. According to him, it was a short-term course and after it he no longer used this steroid, considering it too harmful to health.
At the peak of his form and with the help of anabolic steroids, his physical characteristics were very impressive. With a height of 185 cm and weight during the competition - 118 kg, the volume of his biceps was 57 cm, wrists - 22.9, forearms - 49 cm. His dimensions also corresponded to his physical capabilities:
- bench press 225 kg in three sets;
- deadlift 265 kg in one approach;
- squats with a barbell of 265 kg in two approaches;
- biceps curl 125 kg in three sets
Unfortunately, despite all the drug experiments to increase muscle volume, my professional career can hardly be called successful. Victories at competitions came only at local competitions, and at national competitions most often the athlete did not even get into the top ten. The most significant achievements were: seventh (1999) and sixth (2003) places in the American Heavyweight Championship. Among local competitions we can highlight: first place in the Los Angeles Championship (2003), victories in the Sacramento Championship and the Border States Championship (2009).
Determined to get rich, no matter what, at the age of 22, Rich begins to save money. Exhausting himself with hard training and strictly limiting his food intake, he raises money to open his own business. This saving lasted for a year and a half until the required amount was accumulated.
Today Rich Piana is a fairly wealthy man. He owns the Mutant sports nutrition brand, although he himself has always criticized the manufacturers of these products. Its distinctive feature from competitors is, according to him, the exceptional naturalness of all the ingredients included in the composition, as well as a larger packaging volume than others, allowing you to buy once and not think about the next purchase in the near future. In addition, he is actively involved in buying real estate in Texas, renting it out in the future.
He ended his professional sports career in 2011, taking part in the national championship for the last time, but without success. And now, having a lot of time, he does what he loves. He is really obsessed with tattoos, which can be easily seen on his body. Rich Piana also tried himself in cinema, and now he runs his own video blog in which he gives advice to beginners.
Without needing anything and living in a luxurious home, he collects tuned cars and works as a personal trainer for over 20 years, while continuing to improve himself and others. Among athletes and admirers of bodybuilding, he left a rather ambiguous impression of himself, which, of course, in no way diminishes his merits among both amateurs and professionals of this sport.
Rich Piana's wife, Sarah Hames, is a famous fitness model, participant in many fitness, bikini, and figure competitions.
On August 25, 2020, Rich left us... The causes of death of the bodybuilder, who was followed by 1.2 million fans on Instagram, have not been disclosed. His girlfriend, Chanel Jansen, claims that Piana hit his head in the bathroom while getting a haircut. Doctors talk about a drug overdose. Police say they found 20 vials of steroids at a bodybuilder's home.

How the story began
The bodybuilder’s date of birth is September 1971, USA. Little is known about what Rich's childhood was like. Good genetics and his mother’s passion for bodybuilding even during puberty determined the boy’s type of activity. He came into contact with the world of weightlifting at the age of 11, when he watched adults train. Already at that time, the tall teenager stood out from his peers with his athletic build, strength and stubbornness. When his classmates began to develop mustaches, he was already bench-pressing 140 kg.
Victory at any cost!"
This motivating motto helped strengthen the bodybuilder's will. Already in his youth, he planned his future and looked for unconventional paths to his goal. This prompted him to accelerate muscle progression and inject metestosterone and decadurobolin. He administered the drugs one cube at a time once a week and observed the results. In 2 months I managed to gain 10 kg of muscle mass and 2.5 kg of fat.
For his 18th birthday, the guy gave himself a gift - he won a clear victory at the junior competition. He was incredibly inspired by the success, and he realized what could be achieved with pharmaceuticals. Rich Piana later talks about steroids:
“If the goal is to build a huge body, naturally, you can’t do without them.”
At his peak at 34:
- from a lying position I pressed 225 kg 3 times;
- trained my arms with barbell lifts of 125 kg x 3;
- squatted with a weight of 265 kg x 2;
- in the deadlift I lifted 265 kg once.
Arm workout
This training program is designed only for “chemical” athletes. Natural bodybuilders should not even try to repeat crazy training to preserve their health. Note that a feature of Rich’s classes was the principle of “not training, but killing muscles” during training in order to achieve maximum stress for the muscles. What makes this workout unique is that it takes 8 hours to complete.
- Every 30 minutes, supersets of biceps curls and French bench presses are performed in a lying position in 4 sets with a maximum number of repetitions.
- Between repetitions of sets you need to drink protein-carbohydrate cocktails. Rich himself prepared 16 glasses for himself before the training began.
- At the end of the training, eat a hearty meal and get a good night's sleep. Rich Piana promises that by the morning the volume of the biceps will increase by 2 centimeters. The swelling will subside over time, but a certain amount of muscle will still remain. After a frantic training session, don’t work on your arms for a couple of weeks.
Piana's workouts
The athlete's program was built on the principle of from least to greatest. He started with light weights and a few reps, then steadily increased volume, doubles, and tempo.
- If on Monday you worked on your torso and biceps;
- on Tuesday I combined back with triceps;
- the environment was allocated for pumping the shoulders and calves, forearms and trapezius.
The athlete constantly monitored local hypertrophy and to correct lagging areas . In addition, during the day I performed the “vacuum” exercise 3 times for a narrow waist. Each training session began with cardio. The program also included training in the evening with light weights for 100 repetitions. Usually this is how he pumped up his arms, doing dumbbell lateral raises and pumping up his biceps with repeated curls.

The whole process is filmed on video, where you can watch this person with your own eyes during the lesson! How much time did he spend in the gym to achieve such strength? It was these killer exercises that increased his power significantly! Rich warned before the workout that this part of the set would destroy him, but he wouldn’t stop and would continue to “kill his chest”!
A strictly straight back and proper breathing are important here. Powerful sexy breasts after a hard workout is truly something to strive for!
However, Piana's own weight is not enough: he loads himself with chains, wrapping them around his neck! Women find him incredible and super strong. Now it’s clear why! Piana's push-ups 12 times show you that there are no limits to the human body's capabilities, because it lifts itself along with the load after such an exhausting workout on the chest.
"Bomb" for the body
After each course, the big man Rich grew in size even more. The most interesting thing is that in order to pierce polymethyl methacrylate he had to travel to Mexico. This drug was banned in America. The athlete did not talk much about this topic in the interview. However, his 16-week course was published in the press, and anyone can familiarize themselves with it in detail.
In a nutshell, it included 13 drugs, 11 of which were anabolic-androgenic steroids. Only a person with a hardened immune system can use chemicals in large quantities. The growth hormone alone cost $2,500 per month. If you add the cost of steroids to the amount, then preparing for the competition was not cheap.

Success in business and life
Rich Piana in his youth, more precisely at the age of 22, decided to get rich .
The desire was so strong that the guy saved literally on everything in order to save an extra dollar. One day he presented a video on his blog where he talked about nutrition. The young muscleman spent $8-10 a day on food. To restore the energy lost during training, I ate 6 times a day, eating half a package of ravioli and 4 eggs in one sitting. On carbohydrate loading days I added rolled oats or rice. Once a week, Piana allowed himself to have lunch for $10. After 1.5 years, the guy saved a certain amount and started a business. His brainchild , Rich Piana 5% Nutrition, is one of the leaders in the sports nutrition segment. At the same time, businessman:
- sold sports accessories;
- real estate in Texas;
- offered services as a personal trainer.
The bodybuilder became the owner of a luxurious house and an exclusive collection of expensive cars.
Although Rich no longer participated in tournaments, he did not give himself any concessions and did his best to maintain the image of a huge muscleman. The athlete continued to train hard and popularize strength sports through social networks.
The friendly guy was always willing to communicate with fans and communicated with them on equal terms, which earned him the respect and love of the fans. On his YouTube channel, he constantly posted a large number of workouts with recommendations on his video blog and made good money from it.
Rich Piana: wife and personal life
Personal life
Perhaps the athlete’s personal life did not work out in the best way. Rich was not used to hiding its details, because this also contributed to the growth of his rating, brought popularity and ultimately added success to his business. Thus, aspects of a personal nature were well known to the public. On September 17, 2020, Rich Piana tied the knot. His wife was Sara Heimis, a famous fitness model of Icelandic origin.
The wedding ceremony took place in, to put it mildly, a non-standard format. Sarah was in a luxurious snow-white wedding dress, but Rich dressed up very unusually, like for a groom. He was wearing a sleeveless tuxedo and shorts instead of trousers. His best man and guests were dressed in a similar style.
After the wedding, the wife of a successful businessman became not only the keeper of the hearth, but also the person. The newlyweds moved into a new house, trained together and ran a business together.
It soon became clear that Sarah Hamis did not marry according to her heart, but only for the purpose of obtaining benefits. Rich released information in which he said that his wife stole money from him and married in order to obtain American citizenship. When this came out, Rich broke up with Sarah.
But a short time later, Rich published a video in which he talked about his new girlfriend Chanel Janseen. It turns out they knew each other for quite a long time; they were connected by personal relationships and common business interests. But at one time Sarah prevented them from getting closer together. After breaking up with his ex, Rich and Chanel rekindled their former passion. Their relationship did not last long, as soon Rich Piana passed away.
