Films about proper nutrition. 5 documentaries that will make you shudder

This is not a complete list of films about healthy eating and vegetarianism that will make you think about the impact of food on health and the environment, but it is a good start. Why do some “healthy” foods contribute to obesity and upset digestion? Is it true that plant-based foods help fight cancer? How do peacefully grazing cows pollute the atmosphere by leaps and bounds? Here are the answers to these and other difficult questions.

With the advent of coronavirus, the importance of giving up meat has become a topic of conversation more often than usual. Diseases transmitted to humans from animals could be avoided if we stopped eating them, according to British animal rights activist and director Ed Winters. “Approximately 75 percent of newly emerging infectious diseases affecting humans began as diseases in animals,” says peta.org, bringing together facts and myths about meat and coronavirus. These tapes are not related to the current pandemic, but will remind you of many things to think about.

Dominion (2018)

Director Chris Delforce became a vegetarian at age 11 after thinking that animals wouldn't want to be eaten by us. In his acclaimed feature-length film, he discusses the relationship of man to animals in general: how morally justifiable can our domination over them be? By sneaking into factories, slaughterhouses and laboratories using drones and hidden cameras, the Dominion film crew reveals the truth that many turn a blind eye to. The film is voiced by Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara, Sadie Sink and other famous vegans.

The Game Changers (2018)

Produced by Jackie Chan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, James Cameron and other enthusiasts, The Game Changers explores the relationship between meat, protein and physical strength. Oscar-winning director and photographer Louis Psihoyos, along with Schwarzenegger, James Wilkes, Patrick Bablumian and others, remind us that stereotypes about steak as “food for strong men” are imposed from the outside, and plant-based nutrition can also be a source of necessary strength. It’s unlikely that you’ll be able to look at meat with the same eyes after this tape - learn more about how to change your diet, find appropriate recipes and additional

#4. FOOD INC.

This film tells the story of how the entire food industry has changed over the past 50 years, completely transforming not only how food is processed, but also how it is grown and produced.

The film tells how huge conglomerates are formatting agriculture, as well as why honest farmers simply cannot survive in the modern world (so we have practically no chance of normal food on our table).

FAT: A Documentary (2019)

For everyone who is still afraid of fats. Vinnie Tortorich takes on the most popular myths about nutrition and weight loss with a look into 1970s American history. Why was it that one and a half million people were diagnosed with diabetes in that decade, but now the figure has exceeded 30 million? “What’s even more alarming is the 100 million people who have diabetes or pre-diabetes,” write the creators of FAT: A Documentary, released this summer. “Not to mention the 40 percent of the population that is obese.” How is this possible with the endless stream of new diets, exercise machines and our general obsession with health and weight loss? Directed by Peter Pardini, the film takes a deep dive into the history of the last 150 years to reveal misinformation and outright lies that have become “truth.” The film can be viewed on iTunes and Vimeo.

Health course: 5 books and films that inspire healthy eating

Buro 24/7 columnist Olga Malysheva this week chose five films and books that motivate you to take the path of proper nutrition and rethink your daily diet

These films and books have already changed the diet and lives of thousands of people. I often recommend them to friends who want to learn how to eat healthy, but don’t know where to start. If you yourself are already well versed in the topic of healthy eating, but can’t wean your boyfriend or parents off sausage sandwiches, some of the films or books below will do it for you. Something from the list will be especially interesting to those who are skeptical about vegetarianism and the fashion for green juices.

Colin Campbell's book The China Study

This book can be recommended to friends who still believe in the myth that meat is an essential and healthy product in the diet. It will especially appeal to those who need facts, statistics and links to authoritative sources. Bestselling author Colin Campbell is the world's leading expert in the field of biochemistry. He cites the results of various studies explaining why high-protein diets and frequent consumption of meat foods lead to serious health problems.

Book by Hiromi Shinya “On the dangers of “healthy eating”

Japanese doctor Hiromi Shinya is known as a surgeon, gastroenterologist, inventor and author of a system for maintaining and restoring health, which he himself has followed throughout his life. The last time Hiromi was sick was when he was 19 years old. Now he is over 75. In the book “On the dangers of “healthy eating” (another name is “Magic Enzymes”), Hiromi Shinya talks about the principles of her system, shares personal and professional experience, and also questions the popular recommendations of “healthy eating”. Hiromi strongly encourages a holistic approach to health and the responsibility of each of us for our youth and longevity.

Film Forks Over Knives

How do animal proteins really affect your health? What were the consequences of promoting the benefits of cow's milk and meat? This documentary, based on research by independent scientists, refutes many modern myths about nutrition. 90 minutes of a movie can be a good motivation to change your lifestyle.

Film “I want to change” (Hungry For Change)

This film will not answer all questions about nutrition, but it will be a great incentive for big changes. How are sugar and depression related? Why doesn't the fitness club alone help? How to reduce stress so it doesn't add weight? Like a good guide, this film will help orient those who are just at the beginning of a healthy path. The film features Mike Adams, Alejandro Junger, Chris Carr and other health experts. They talk not only about facts and scientific research, but above all about their personal experience.

Book by Alejandro Junger - Clean

The Clean detox program is loved by Gwyneth Paltrow, Demi Moore and Robert Downey Jr. Its author is cardiologist Alejandro Junger, who has experienced on himself and thousands of his patients the effectiveness of an integrated approach to cleansing the body. Headaches, allergies, irritability, lethargy, poor digestion and excess weight - according to Junger, these problems can be easily overcome by changing your diet and lifestyle in 21 days. In addition to describing the detox program itself, the book Clean provides a lot of useful practical advice, as well as a more than clear explanation of what detox is and why we need it so much today.

"PlanEda" (2010)

Our well-being directly depends on what we eat; food production has a negative impact on nature, and this has long been no secret. However, only truly educated people in this direction know how strongly all this is interconnected. The film “PlanEda” can change consciousness and force a convinced meat eater to take the path of vegetarianism. Especially recommended for viewing by people with a genetic predisposition to cancer.

Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken! (2019)

The author of the scandalous film "Double Help" (2004), exposing McDonald's, released a sequel - about chicken. “Has fast food become healthier?” Morgan Spurlock asks in the trailer. Definitely. But the activist undertakes to study the issue thoroughly by opening his own fast food restaurant. The main thing in it is chicken, the most consumed bird on the planet. What is “free range”, why are sandwiches tinted, and can they be made fairly? Spurlock makes you think at least twice about where and what you should eat. You can watch the film online here.

"Choice of Food" (2016)

If enough people are looking for plant-based food, this is already a good approach: it should be up to us, the consumers, to determine what will be on the market. And not vice versa. Michael Seversky's film is full of simple truths that come from the mouths of scientists, experts and activists. They remind here that vegetarianism is not a panacea if it is not about healthy eating, but about chips and cola, and about a conscious approach to every product that you decide to eat. The film also discusses the low-carb diet, the myth that fish oil is healthier than others, burgers, dairy products and other burning issues.

#3. SUGAR COATED

This film is about the sugar industry and how exactly sugar is produced (spoiler: compared to the sugar industry, the tobacco industry is an innocent baby). You know about the dangers of sugar as a product, but the point is not only in its calorie content and ability to cause caries, but also in the technologies with which it is produced today.

If you need motivation to stop eating sugar (which is one of the best gifts you can give your body), then start with this movie.

"Sugar" (2014)

If you have problems with well-being, mood swings and weight and you are wondering what sugar has to do with it, the personal experience of Australian Damon Gameau will help. He decides to eat only “healthy” muesli, yoghurt, natural juices and sports drinks for eight weeks, and the result makes him seriously think about the composition of the products on supermarket shelves. How many spoons of sugar are in a glass of orange juice or a “healthy” bar? Why is chicken in teriyaki sauce or with lump sugar cubes about the same thing, but coconut sugar is no better than regular sugar? Since the release of the film in 2014, Gameau has been showing everyone how sugar hides where we don’t expect it, and what happens to the body when it is constantly consumed, not only in terms of weight.

What to see? Films about healthy eating

The sight, smell and taste of our favorite foods are like old friends.
The food we grew up with underpins our social experience and is the main source of pleasure in our lives. However, not every hobby is good for us. Sometimes our little joys cost us too much. Film "PlanEDA: think what you eat"

The path to health and harmony can sometimes be very difficult. I won’t say that I always ate healthy and it came easy to me. There are so many temptations around from all sides - food advertisements, smells in restaurants, friends inviting you to share pizza or cake with them.

On the other hand, the rhythm of our lives accelerates every year. There are more and more tasks, less and less time for yourself.

What should I do?

To stay on track and keep moving towards your goals, constantly look for inspiration and fuel your motivation . Whatever you do, strengthen your positive endeavors every day!

It is important to regularly take a break from the everyday rush of good books, movies, interesting programs and meetings. Look for inspiring success stories and positive examples that can teach you something.

In turn, I want to share with you my favorite films about health and proper nutrition. Watching such a video is a great way to have a pleasant and useful evening, while being inspired by new ideas.

You can show these films to your family and friends who are interested in healthy eating. I especially recommend viewing to those who have given up on themselves, despairing of becoming healthy and beautiful again . Who knows, maybe these videos will become an incentive for you to start a new life?

Fat, sick and almost dead

About what?

Reality transformation of a sick fat man into a cheerful handsome man - in 60 days on juice fasting.

Why watch?

  • To believe that anything is possible if you really want it .
  • To be inspired by the power of the human spirit and a plant-based diet.

This movie is my favorite. A true story about how you can radically change your life in two months. The film was made by an ordinary Australian guy named Joe Cross. At the beginning, Joe weighs 140 kilograms, takes handfuls of pills and does not care at all about what he eats. In general, he has nothing to lose.

The hopelessness of the situation pushes Joe to take a drastic step - to live for 60 days on a juice fast, under the guns of cameras that record his every step . He spends half of this time in New York and its suburbs, and in the second month he travels across the country. Joe reasons:

When I was little, I often fell, and the abrasions on my body healed on their own. And I thought: if the body can heal itself from the outside, why can't it do it from the inside?

Along the way, Joe communicates with ordinary Americans on the topic of health and nutrition, showing an example of how to go from being fat, sick and almost dead to young and healthy again.

Why did I decide to take this trip? First of all, because I realized that I shouldn’t eat like that. Once you realize this, you will be surprised how simple it is.

Filmed without embellishment, this film is worth seeing.

PlanEDA: Think what you eat.

About what?

A revolutionary film about the acclaimed "China Study". Exhaustive scientific evidence of the direct impact of nutrition on the development of such “diseases of civilization” as cancer, diabetes, heart disease and obesity. Finally, the benefits of vegetarianism have been scientifically proven!

Why watch?

  • To deepen your understanding of nutrition and really understand what foods cause disease.
  • To debunk for yourself and your loved ones the “misconception of the century” about the benefits of a protein diet.
  • To show the film to your parents and grandparents who are at risk for heart and other age-related diseases.

The film has a serious scientific basis. The main roles are brilliant scientists and researchers.

The first part of the film deals with the so-called “China Study” conducted by Dr. Colin Campbell. In a clear, professional, and unobtrusive manner, Dr. Campbell explains the results of this major study— the consequences of eating animal protein .

The doctor's findings are truly revolutionary. The film is worth watching if only to stop being a victim of those who profit from our ignorance, misunderstanding and misinformation.

You can accept or not accept the authority of the evidence presented. It all depends on what you are aiming for. Does your level of knowledge allow you to make a prediction? I am able to predict that those who eat animal products will face problems. Dr Colin Campbell.

The second part of the film features another inspiring experiment. Heart surgeon Dr. Esselstyn collected 18 patients with heart disease. All of them had 49 heart attacks! As a result of changing their diet and giving up animal foods, 17 of them no longer had heart problems in the future. Sounds impressive, right?

After this film, you will no longer be able to say that you eat animal food, since “animal protein is necessary.”

In conclusion, I want to give one more quote from the movie “PlanEDA: Think What You Eat”:

Food is actually a choice. Each of us can choose to follow old habits or prepare our next meal in a new way.
