Pharmacy drugs for bodybuilding: lists, ratings, composition, indications for use, pros and cons of use, rules of administration and consequences

Asparkam

Asparkam contains potassium and magnesium in an easily digestible form for the human body - aspartate.
Potassium and magnesium help normalize metabolic processes in muscle cells, maintaining normal osmotic pressure in them. This is realized through the potassium-sodium pump (the predominant location of potassium inside the cell, and sodium outside the cell space). Aspartate facilitates the transport of potassium and magnesium into cells, which has a beneficial effect on the athlete’s body. The drug increases performance, which contributes to the speed of muscle growth. Magnesium, which is involved in protein metabolism and supplies energy in this process, allows the athlete to effectively build muscle during strength training.

Asparkam is also used by athletes for the purpose of rapid weight loss, when this is necessary in case of weight gain due to the fat component or excess fluid. Excess fat is removed by “drying”, combining increased protein nutrition with active training, and to prevent possible intoxication, they drink a lot of fluid, along with which the body removes potassium and magnesium, so asparkam is necessary here, as it restores the balance of potassium and magnesium.

The drug helps fight cramps and also significantly increases the endurance of an athlete training in high ambient temperatures. Asparkam is produced in the form of tablets. Dosages and method of use are indicated in the attached instructions; as a rule, this is taking one or two tablets three times a day.

Steroid #5: Testosterone Enanthate

Testosterone enanthate in ampoulesThis is a prolonged ester of the male hormone, which many athletes love.
The drug can help you gain weight and improve physical performance. For this reason, it is actively used by powerlifting representatives and weightlifters. Increased strength in athletes is associated with Enanthate's ability to increase blood flow. It also improves the quality of nutrition of muscle tissue cells. Many athletes use a combination of Enanthate and Boldenone. In terms of its power, this combination is not inferior to the combination of Sustanon-250 with Nandrolone Decanoate.

Use Enanthate in a weekly dose of 0.25–0.5 grams. We also note the good compatibility of the steroid. You can use it together with almost any other anabolic drug.

Trimetazidine

In terms of action, trimetazidine is close to the well-known mildronate, but is much cheaper than the latter. The drug promotes greater oxygen delivery to cells, preserves intracellular potential, counteracts the formation of free radicals, and increases the athlete’s endurance. Taking the drug allows you to significantly increase the load and intensity of training.

Trimetazidine reviews from athletes

The drug is an antihyperoxidant agent that improves the condition and functioning of the heart muscle when its blood supply deteriorates due to vascular damage. The active component is trimetazidine dihydrochloride, a substance that ensures normal energy metabolism in cells during hypoxia or ischemia.

The mechanism of action is achieved through the ability of trimetazidine to inhibit the oxidation of fatty acids by inhibiting a specific enzyme, which leads to increased glucose oxidation and an increase in the rate of glycolysis. This reorientation of internal processes provides protection of the heart muscle from the harmful effects of ischemia.

In addition, trimetazidine controls the process of energy metabolism of the myocardium and neurosensory tissues in conditions of deteriorating blood supply, reduces the intensity of the developed phenomena, reduces the level of movement and infiltration of neutrophils in the affected areas of the cardiac tissue, and reduces the size of myocardial damage. In this case, the medicine does not affect the nature of blood flow.

After administration, the medicine is quickly absorbed by the intestinal mucous tissues. Easily overcomes histohematic barriers and is removed from the body by the kidneys.

Trimetazidine is produced in tablets and capsules with regular and prolonged action, in dosages of 10, 20 and 35 mg of the active substance.

In therapy it is used as an additional treatment for stable angina.

DOPING CONTROL AND BODYBUILDING

⇐ PreviousPage 10 of 12Next ⇒

The use of various anabolic drugs has long been contrary to the rules of the IWF. As I said, in 1996 the IFAC began testing for diuretics, but not for steroids. Following the recognition of bodybuilding by the International Olympic Committee, the IFAC has established Olympic doping control rules since 1999, at least in the amateur category. This involves mandatory testing of the top three finalists in each class, as well as others selected at random. The various National Federations associated with the IFAC are required to follow the same rules in all matters relating to doping control.

Although the IWF has not yet mandated doping controls for professional bodybuilders, a federation spokesman confirmed that it plans to introduce the same procedures that have been in place for amateurs since around 2000.

To be honest, I have been trying for more than ten years to convince the leadership of the IFAC to use the latest technologies to test both amateurs and professionals for any anabolic and androgenic drugs. I believe that in the end, drug testing will save not only bodybuilding, but also human lives. I hope my wish comes true before it is too late for the sport that I loved and continue to love. Its very name “bodybuilding,” or “building the body,” is the opposite of the destruction of the body that results from the use of illegal drugs.

SUPERSUPPLEMENTS

There are a number of legal, high-tech supplements available these days that were not known or available during my bodybuilding career. The use of these supplements is controversial both regarding their effects on the body and their actual effectiveness. Listed below are some of the most important supplements and what we know about them at the time of writing this book.

Pre-hormonal drugs

These are substances that were considered illegal before the passage of the Dietary Supplements Act of 1994. They are called prehormonal hormones because the body converts them into male (and in some cases female) hormones. Although classified as dietary supplements under the said law, these drugs are prohibited for use by some sports organizations such as the National Football League and the International Olympic Committee. Their use must be approached with great caution, since once converted into male hormones, they can have exactly the same effects on your body as anabolic steroids. Simply put, if you are interested in trying one of these medications, I recommend first consulting with an experienced professional.

Prehormonal medications should not be taken by men under twenty years of age, women of any age, or adult men with high blood pressure, heart failure, or prostate disease. There is still very little scientific evidence to support the safety or effectiveness of these products. These include dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), pregnenolone, 4-androstenodione, 4-norandrostenodione, 4-androstenodiol, 4-norandrostenodiol, 5-androstenodiol, and 5-norandrostenodiol.

Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) was the first approved adrenal steroid hormone (the adrenal glands are attached to the top of the kidneys) to become a dietary supplement. Although useful as an antioxidant, its effectiveness in increasing testosterone levels is somewhat questionable since DHEA is not a true testosterone pre-hormonal and creates various estrogenic compounds that ultimately produce negligible amounts of testosterone.

Androstenedione is another adrenal hormone that is a direct precursor to testosterone. Androstenedione is more effective for women than men because it creates more liver enzymes needed to produce testosterone.

Norandrostenodione is a pre-hormonal drug similar to the natural anabolic nandrolone, which is produced in the body of pregnant women. Its action is close to that of testosterone, but it does not have the same androgenic effect.

4-AD, 4-androstenodiol (4-androgen-3beta, 17betadiol) is another adrenal hormone that is directly converted to testosterone, but using a more abundant and efficient enzyme. However, in its initial state, 4-AD has a stronger androgenic effect than testosterone.

4-norandrostenodiol is a variant of 4-AD that replicates the effects of norandrostenodione but is more easily converted to nandrolone due to a more efficient enzyme chain. Of all the adrenal hormones, this is the most anabolic and least androgenic.

Medicinal plants

Although supplements made from herbs and other natural ingredients are generally considered safer than synthetic drugs, caution must be exercised here as well. Do not exceed recommended dosages or use untested combinations of supplements.

Tibulus terrestris. The extract is prepared from a medicinal plant known as vine. Many consider it a safe replacement for anabolic steroids. According to research, it stimulates the immune response and the production of certain hormones. Originally used to treat infertility and other reproductive disorders.

Ephedra sinica. In China it is known as "Ma Huan". Contains ephedrine, which has an effect on the body similar to that of epinephrine (adrenaline), but softened and longer lasting. Acts mainly on the cardiovascular system, stimulates the formation of blood cells, increases blood pressure and relaxes smooth muscles, preventing cramps. Side effects (even when used in small doses): insomnia, impaired motor function, irritability, headaches, nausea, vomiting, urinary retention and tachycardia. In large doses, Ephedra can cause a sharp increase in blood pressure, cardiac arrhythmia and the development of drug addiction. Due to the possibility of these side effects, ephedrine-based drugs should be used with great caution and only for a short time.

Citrus aurantium. The common name is “bitter orange”. Citrus aurantium is used to regulate lipid balance, lowers sugar levels in the circulatory system in diabetics, purifies the blood, treats functional disorders of the liver and gallbladder, and stimulates the activity of the brain, heart and circulatory system. Helps with sleep disorders, kidney and bladder diseases, and mineral metabolism disorders. Also useful in the treatment of neuralgia and muscle pain, rheumatic diseases, bruises and phlebitis.

Garcinia cambogea. Its fruits contain hydroxycitrate, which affects lipid and carbohydrate metabolism. Hydroxycitrate also inhibits the biosynthesis of fatty acids and cholesterol, has appetite suppressant properties and slows weight gain. Used for the prevention and control of obesity.

Yohimbine (Corynanthe yohimbe). Yohimbine is found in the bark of the yohimbe tree. It is a stimulant that enhances the effects of another natural stimulant, norepinephrine, found in the human body. It has thermogenic and fat-mobilizing properties. Because yohimbine increases blood pressure, it should be used with caution.

Guaranha (Paullinia sirapa). Guaranha has stimulant properties due to its high content of caffeine and related alkaloids such as theophylline and theobromine, thereby increasing energy levels and physical endurance. Has a depressant effect on appetite. Frequent use can lead to caffeine addiction, central nervous system dysfunction and sharp fluctuations in blood sugar levels, including hypoglycemia. Consumption in moderate doses is recommended.

Gotu kola (Centella asiatica). Gotu kola, also known as Indian rosemary, improves mental abilities: memory, attention and concentration. In fact, this is one of the few medicinal plants whose beneficial effects on memory function are fully proven. It also strengthens the cardiovascular system and improves blood circulation.

Green tea, unfermented (Camella sinensis). Green tea contains caffeine and antioxidants; it promotes digestion and kidney function, improves respiratory functions and is a good tonic for the entire cardiovascular system.

Kava (Piper methysticum). Kava is often used to alleviate symptoms of anxiety, stress and nervousness. Contains kava pirones, which enhance the effects of other substances such as alcohol, barbiturates and psychotropic drugs, which are strictly contraindicated to take simultaneously with kava. Side effects are unknown, at least with low dosage and short-term use. However, long-term use of kava can lead to serious nervous disorders, temporary yellowing of the skin, discoloration of hair and nails, and, in rare cases, allergic skin reactions.

St. John's wort. This medicinal plant is often used to alleviate symptoms of mental disorders, depression, anxiety and/or nervousness. When used externally, it is used for the treatment of injuries and bruises, myalgia and first-degree burns.

Valerian (Valeriana officinalis). Valerian root extract is used in cases of increased excitability and sleep disorders due to nervousness.

Laminaria (Fucus vesiculosus). Kelp is a brown seaweed that is an excellent source of iodine. Used to improve thyroid function. It is a source of alginic acid, which contains components that help restore ligaments and tendons.

Eleutherococcus. Another name is Siberian ginseng. Eleutherococcus has pronounced immunomodulatory properties; it improves the body's ability to resist various forms of stress. It has a profound beneficial effect on the cardiovascular and nervous system.

Ginseng . Ginseng root extract is traditionally used as a tonic. It has the properties of an adaptogen, or “biological response modifier.” Improves the body's ability to adapt to changes in internal and external conditions, increases non-specific resistance to stress.

Echinacea (Echinacea purpurea). The root extract has a nonspecific immunostimulating reaction. It increases the ability to resist various infections, including viral ones, and helps fight colds and flu.

Boswellia serrata. The extract from this plant contains boswellic acid, which has a proven anti-inflammatory effect and is effective in treating injured ligaments and joints. (Another natural anti-inflammatory agent is capsacin, an extract from the Capsicum annum plant.)

Active metabolites

Lipoic acid. Once classified as a fat-soluble vitamin, lipoic acid is now considered a close analogue of essential fatty acids. It is involved in the synthesis of prostaglandins (and is thus associated with inflammatory reactions and immunoregulation). Its importance for bodybuilders is to improve the digestibility of foods and have a strong antioxidant effect.

Pyruvic acid. The components of this acid improve the production of energy from food and are themselves sources of energy. Also helps increase endurance.

Polyphenols. The most common sources of polyphenols are rutin, quercetin, pine bark and grape seed extracts. Polyphenols are a group of chemical compounds that occur naturally in a variety of plants: vegetables, fruits, nuts, flowers, seeds and tree bark. Botanists have described more than 4,000 varieties of polyphenols. Polyphenols belong to the same chemical family as flavones, flavonoids, catechins, anthocyanides and isoflavonoids. Dietary polyphenols are beneficial to health as powerful antioxidants. They support cardiovascular function and improve overall metabolism.

Chrysin. It is a plant flavone with antiestrogenic activity. Inhibits (suppresses) the transformation of androstenedione and testosterone into estrogen and, therefore, can alter the metabolism of steroid hormones.

Forskolin (synonym - colforcin). This is another plant substance isolated from the Coelus forskohli plant, an activator of the enzyme adenylate cyclase, which plays an important role in regulating the intracellular system. In particular, it is involved in the adaptation of myocardial and skeletal muscle cells to intense exercise.

Essential (essential) fatty acids. This group includes linolenic acid, linoleic acid, arachidonic acid, fish oil group acids and their derivatives. These substances are necessary for the normal functioning of all cells of the human body: their deficiency affects all functions of the body. Consumption of essential fatty acids improves athletic performance, facilitates recovery after exercise, increases immune resistance and endurance. The most important among them for bodybuilders are DPA and EPA compounds. DPA is present in fish oil and some seaweeds; it is necessary for the normal functioning of the nervous system, including visual functions. EPA is also a component of fish oil and is necessary for the normal functioning of the cardiovascular system.

CLA (linked linoleic acid). Modified version of linoleic acid. CLA has antioxidant and anticarcinogenic properties. In addition, it may have an anti-catabolic effect and interfere with the production of certain prostaglandins. CLA reduces the rate of subcutaneous fat accumulation and promotes the growth of lean muscle mass. Thus, CLA is considered as a kind of regulator of fat deposits.

NMV. Beta-hydroxyl-beta-methylbiturate is a metabolite of the amino acid leucine. Research shows this nutrient slows protein breakdown associated with intense exercise and stress. NMV has the most effective effect during a diet. Used alone or as part of protein shakes.

Vanadium (in the form of vanadium sulfate). Vanadium is a trace element needed by the body only in very small quantities. It is involved in a wide range of biochemical reactions. Products containing vanadium have gained popularity as a result of research recommending its use for type II diabetes. However, the research was not aimed at promoting vanadium as a dietary supplement. The safety of these supplements has yet to be determined, so extreme caution must be used.

L-carnitine. Previously considered a vitamin and now classified as a metabolite, carnitine is a common component of muscle tissue. Its function is to transport fatty acids to mitochondria (cell elements), where fatty acid oxidation occurs. For bodybuilders, L-carnitine supplements may be necessary due to high intensity exercise. It has a beneficial effect on the heart muscle, improves heart function, and also helps normalize the lipid profile of blood and muscle tissue.

Creatine monohydrate. This amino acid derivative is involved in the process of energy production in cells. Over 90% of the creatine in the human body is found in the muscles as creatine phosphate. Its concentration is especially high when a large amount of chemical energy is converted into mechanical energy. Creatine phosphate creates a reserve of high-energy phosphates that can be quickly used to maintain intracellular ATP levels (the main source of energy for any cells). Supplementation with creatine monohydrate is essential for most bodybuilders. In terms of price/effectiveness ratio, this is one of the best nutritional supplements for muscle growth and increased physical strength.

Because creatine supplements affect the body's fluid and electrolyte balance, you need to take extra precaution and include a number of minerals in your diet, especially potassium, and drink plenty of water. Creatine is believed to work best when consumed along with simple carbohydrates. For example, you can mix creatine powder with grape juice. Some bodybuilders consume creatine mixed in water half an hour before meals.

Glutamine. Glutamine is an amino acid that plays an important role in protein metabolism in muscle tissue. During periods of stress, glutamine is released from skeletal muscles and supports the body's immune functions. The influx of glutamine from muscle tissue impedes protein synthesis and can lead to protein deficiency. Glutamine supplements taken between meals are believed to improve muscle growth and have beneficial effects on overall fitness. Glutamine is best consumed on an empty stomach or as part of a low-fat protein shake.

Glucosamine and chondroitin. Strengthens articular joints. Because strength training places enormous stress on joints, these supplements have gained popularity as a preventive measure against possible injury.

Pectin. This dietary fiber slows the transition of carbohydrates from the stomach into the circulatory system, preventing a rapid increase in blood sugar levels. Used as a “laxative,” it reduces the pressure of fecal matter in the colon and stimulates its movement.

Gyapo fiber. This dietary fiber is produced from the endosperm of the guar tree seeds. Reduces blood cholesterol and controls appetite.

Arginine. This amino acid, found in proteins, is sometimes used as a supplement to increase growth hormone levels.

Branched amino acids. Leucine, isoleucine and valine are essential amino acids that are used by bodybuilders as a source of muscle energy and anabolic agents.

Ornithine. Like arginine, this substance is used to increase growth hormone levels. Ornithine is not a component of proteins.

Caffeine. This stimulant, usually taken with coffee or as a dietary supplement, improves athletic performance. An overdose leads to negative side effects: insomnia, rapid heartbeat, and intestinal upset. Large doses during times of stress can lead to central nervous system disorders.

Glycerol. A non-toxic trivalent alcohol that breaks down in the body into glucose and ketones. Used for its ability to bind water. Glycerol in the circulatory system removes excess fluid from the skin, so it can be used instead of diuretics.

THE LAST WEEK

No matter how carefully your diet is planned, a strict diet will deplete your body. Your muscle cells shrink and glycogen stores are depleted. Towards the end of the diet, you no longer look big, strong, energetic and healthy, which is exactly how you want to look when you stand on stage in front of the judges. To avoid this, you need to stop dieting a week before the competition and give your body a chance to rest and recuperate.

However, most bodybuilders make the mistake of dieting until just before competition day. They start eating at the last minute; in particular, they try to pump up the body with carbohydrates, absorbing them in huge quantities. But it is often too late. The body does not have time for physical recovery processes.

By the way, this is why many bodybuilders begin to look much better a day or two after the competition, especially when they allow themselves to relax and eat foods rich in fats and carbohydrates. Their poor, exhausted muscles finally get enough raw material and begin to look normal.

I never took things to extremes. When I was preparing for a competition, I would usually finish my diet a week (or more) before the show and then gradually increase my food intake, building up my glycogen stores and giving my muscles enough time to tone up after the diet. Good results can be achieved in less time, but not in a day or two. The recovery process takes some time, so I recommend ending the diet no later than four to five days before the start of the competition. The optimal period is selected by trial and error.

"EXHAUSTION"

Several years ago, it became fashionable among bodybuilders to go on a no-carbohydrate diet a day or two before starting carbohydrate pumping before a competition. Not only does this not lead to good results, but it is actually harmful to the body, which is already exhausted after ten to twelve weeks of a low-calorie diet. What's the point of forcing yourself even more if it's time for you to think about additional nutrition? The idea behind the no-carb diet is that the shock of carbohydrate depletion causes the body to metabolize more carbohydrates during the pump. But (1) this is not true, and (2) even if this were true, the body would still not have enough time to process large amounts of carbohydrates.

CARBOHYDRATE PUMPING

The process of carbohydrate pumping involves a sharp increase in carbohydrate consumption shortly before competition in order to accumulate glycogen reserves in the muscles and increase their size. In practice, fat consumption also increases. After a long diet, your body is unlikely to immediately begin to accumulate fat deposits when it receives a normal amount of food. This process is necessary because the size of your muscles is largely dependent on the amount of glycogen (carbohydrate stores) and water they contain.

Low glycogen muscles need at least three days to recover, but if you start a little earlier the process will go more smoothly. And since the body can only absorb a certain amount of food at one time, you need to digest carbohydrates in small portions and eat more often to ensure a continuous flow of glycogen into the muscles. So, if the competition is scheduled for Saturday, you should make sure that your body receives carbohydrates in sufficient quantities starting at least on Wednesday. If you wait until the last minute, you will simply overload your body with carbohydrates that it cannot absorb. This will spike your blood sugar levels and cause your body to retain a ton of excess water, while your muscles will still remain flat.

In the early stages of my career, I knew almost nothing about the mechanism of glycogen production. As mentioned, through trial and error, I have found that it is much better to get into tournament shape the week before the competition, and then dedicate the last week to training, posing and carbohydrate pumping. However, although I have explained this many times in my seminars and in magazine articles, there are still plenty of bodybuilders who fast until the last day and then binge on carbohydrates in the vain hope of replenishing their glycogen stores.

LIQUID RESET

Another problem that bodybuilders often face is the retention of subcutaneous water, which makes the muscles smooth and expressionless. Samir Banout was known for his almost paranoid concern about excess water in the body.

One possible solution is to take diuretics, but this creates a lot of problems. Firstly, muscles themselves are 75% water, so intense fluid loss causes them to “shrink.” Second, diuretics flush out electrolytes—minerals needed for optimal muscle contraction—from the body. After taking diuretics, many bodybuilders feel weak and prone to cramps, sometimes while posing on stage.

In one case, a well-known professional bodybuilder overused diuretics, failed to get the correct diagnosis and treatment when problems began, and eventually died from dehydration. At the time of this writing, the IWF conducts diuretic testing before all major bodybuilding championships. This apparently had an effect, as very few participants failed the test.

So what to do about the water retention problem? Let's look at how the body retains water. The more you drink, the more fluid is excreted along with water. At the same time, excess of some minerals, such as sodium, are also removed from the body. On the other hand, if you limit your water intake, the body immediately begins to retain as much fluid as possible to protect itself from dehydration. So, the more you drink, the less water is retained in bound form; The less you drink, the more water remains in your body.

It is best to continue drinking water until the evening before race day rather than restricting your fluid intake for several days. In the evening, reduce your water intake by half, but by no means completely. Your body will continue to shed water at about the same rate for several hours; By limiting your water intake, you will get rid of excess fluid under the skin. On the morning of competition, continue to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Do this and you won't have any problems.

By the way, many professionals (who, it would seem, should know very well what they are doing) continue to dehydrate themselves before competitions. It's funny to watch how during the preliminary assessment they drink liters of water in between posing. What's the deal with this: It's bad to drink water before a competition, but as soon as you get on stage, your body suddenly starts to process it differently? If these athletes drank water before competition, they wouldn't need to gulp it down so greedily on stage.

Water is the main chemical component of our body. Muscles are mainly composed of water. On the other hand, fat contains very little water. When the body converts carbohydrates into glycogen reserves, glycogen binds water in a 1:3 ratio. Agree, this is quite a lot. Therefore, trying to get rid of bound water the wrong way will cause your muscles to begin to shrink, as well as your chances of winning in competitions.

Sodium

For many years, bodybuilders preparing for competitions have been fearful of any foods containing sodium. Indeed, excess sodium leads to additional water binding (so people with high blood pressure need to carefully monitor the content of this element in their diet). But this does not happen if you drink enough water, and excess sodium is excreted from the body along with urine. Therefore, bodybuilders who had sodium problems were obviously dehydrated to begin with, meaning the body was holding on to excess water along with excess sodium.

I've heard some very strange stories about sodium. Some bodybuilders began fasting sodium weeks before competition! They tried to avoid any foods that contained even normal amounts of sodium. They drank distilled water, which is not good for the body. As a result, they overexhausted themselves and approached the competition with an electrolyte imbalance and regular, painful cramps.

Instead, you should simply avoid foods that are very high in sodium (potato chips, grilled chicken, etc.) and drink enough water to stay hydrated. No special “monitoring” of sodium intake is necessary.

Summary

1. Avoid foods high in sodium.

2. Limit your water intake starting only the evening before race day.

3. Keep your blood sugar levels constant. There is no need to starve yourself and then eat your fill. Excess food raises blood sugar levels and causes the body to retain water.

4. Allow your body to sweat normally during exercise. Strength training helps you get rid of a lot of water, as does aerobic exercise like jogging or cycling. Posing is especially good for “squeezing” excess water out of the body and further tightening the muscles.

5. Do not overly rely on a sauna or steam room to remove excess water from the body. You can lose water this way, but it's easy to overdo it and end up dehydrated. Remember that sweat is not just water: various minerals are removed from the body along with sweat. Taking a multimineral supplement after a hard workout should be part of your overall supplement program.

6. Before using any synthetic or natural drug, find out about its side effects. Shortly before the 1980 Olympia, I took a cortisone shot to treat a shoulder injury. I didn't know that this would cause the body to retain excess water. As a result, I became so bloated that I had to pose all day before the competition and most of the night to get back into shape.

7. Exercise in the fresh air as often as possible so that the sun “evaporates” excess water from your body. At the same time, drink plenty of water to replace losses from sweating.

Riboxin

Riboxin, being a stimulator of biochemical processes, can have a beneficial effect on the athlete’s cardiovascular system. The drug increases the force of heart contractions, increasing stroke volume and coronary blood supply, and has anabolic and antiarrhythmic effects. Riboxin improves blood supply to muscle tissue, normalizes energy metabolism, activates metabolic processes in the myocardium, as well as a number of enzymes.

Riboxin can replace ATP. The drug is effective in combination with potassium orotate. It is taken for 1-3 months according to the regimen of 0.2 g 3-4 times a day.

Reviews

Each athlete has his own set of “favorite” medications. This is natural, because Susceptibility to drugs is an individual thing. Glutamic and orotic acid have a lot of positive reviews in professional circles. With low cost, good tolerability and rare occurrence of side effects, they have proven to be effective drugs for effective training.

In medicine, there is a double opinion about supplements from the pharmacy. The drugs used for this purpose in bodybuilding are relatively safe and have a beneficial effect on the body, but if the instructions are not followed, any drug can be harmful. It is recommended to consult a doctor before starting a course of any medication.

Application in bodybuilding

Asparkam

Training in sports and bodybuilding always involves high and prolonged loads. As a result, tissues, cells and organs work to the limit, and therefore often cannot withstand extreme stress. To avoid injury and damage, various medications are used to strengthen the body’s immunity and its ability to recover.

The use of Trmetazidine to enhance the body's reserves is justified by the ability of its active substance to improve the supply of oxygen and blood to the tissues of the heart muscle, strengthening the resistance of cell membranes and their restoration after strong physical exertion. The main indications for using the product are:

  • Protection of the myocardium and neurosensory organs during the training process, especially during strength exercises
  • Preventing cell damage during intense exercise
  • Dizziness due to vascular disorders
  • Insufficient supply of oxygen to the body
  • Difficult training conditions.

The drug eliminates blood supply disorders, and thereby makes it possible for people with circulatory problems to engage in bodybuilding. As a result of taking the drug, the following effects are observed:

  • Eliminates tissue damage under hypoxic conditions
  • Strengthens blood vessels and heart
  • Improves energy metabolism in cells
  • Increases the body's stability under conditions of increased stress
  • Improves oxygen supply to brain cells
  • Metabolic processes in the body are maintained in a normal state.

How to take Trimetazidine for bodybuilding

The drug is available from pharmacies without a prescription, but this does not mean that you can take it at your own discretion. People who are seriously involved in bodybuilding should definitely consult a doctor or trainer about what dosage and how long to take Trimetazidine.

If we talk about average values, drugs are taken in an amount of 40-60 mg several times with food. The duration of the course is determined in accordance with the condition of the body and the complexity of the training.

The first result usually appears 2 weeks after starting Trimetazidine in the form of improved tolerance to training and overall condition. However, if no changes are observed, you should consult a doctor to adjust the dosage.

Potassium orotate

The drug is a stimulator of endogenous biochemical processes and is classified as a metabolic drug. It is produced mainly in tablet form and is sold in pharmacies without a prescription. The average dosage for an athlete is 1.5-2 g per day. Essentially, potassium orotate is a common mineral salt found in the tissues of any living organism.

The drug helps strengthen the cardiovascular system and has an anabolic effect, allowing the athlete to recover faster after training. The drug increases diuresis and improves appetite. The drug is not particularly effective for noticeable progress of a bodybuilder, but, nevertheless, in general it is beneficial for the body, is well tolerated by the athlete and has no side effects.

The drug is taken according to the following scheme: an hour before meals, 1 tablet 3-4 times a day. The duration of the treatment course is 21-24 days.

Side effects

With increased sensitivity or incorrect dosage, side effects may develop such as:

  • Allergic reactions.
  • Stomach upsets.
  • Liver dysfunction.
  • Decrease in the number of blood cells (platelets, erythrocytes, leukocytes).
  • Nervous system disorders: irritability, insomnia, lethargy.

Side effects are also described in detail in the instructions for each individual drug.

Mildronate

Mildronate is classified as a cardioprotector. The drug is designed to increase the athlete's performance, compensating for the manifestations of mental and physical fatigue syndrome. Mildronate normalizes metabolic processes and regulates cellular immunity. As a rule, mildronate is prescribed at a rate of 15-20 mg per kilogram of weight. The drug is taken as prescribed by a doctor, so it is recommended to consult before you start taking it.

The daily dosage of the drug is determined at the rate of 15-20 mg/kg of body weight, which is on average 1-2 g, taken in 4 divided doses. Course duration is 14 days, repeated after 2-3 weeks.

Agapurin

Agapurin is available in tablet form and is relatively inexpensive. Drugs based on a similar active ingredient are trental and pentoxifylline. Agapurin is taken separately from other drugs. It increases vascular tone, reduces blood viscosity and increases blood flow speed, which is important for an athlete who feels the maximum pumping of working muscles.

  • on training days 3 times 2 tablets;
  • on rest days, 3 times 1 tablet.

The duration of the course of Agapurin is 20 days. After a 4-week break, the course is repeated. Take the tablets with plenty of water. To avoid side effects, it is forbidden to take the drug without consulting your doctor.

Should non-professionals take pharmaceuticals?

Any product from the pharmaceutical industry can be harmful if used incorrectly. If you do not have a clear goal to improve your performance, you exercise irregularly and do not follow the principles of proper nutrition, then taking medications will not be justified. Beginning athletes should make sure there are no contraindications and consult a doctor before using any type of medicinal supplement. The complex of drugs is selected together with a qualified trainer.

Leuzea (maral root)

The plant grows in the western and eastern parts of Siberia, in the Altai mountains and in Central Asia. It contains phytoexidones - substances identical to steroid compounds that have a pronounced anabolic effect. Leuzea activates protein synthesis and its accumulation in muscle tissue, heart, liver and kidneys.

The drug helps increase physical endurance and intellectual performance. Long-term use of Leuzea strengthens the vascular bed and thereby improves overall blood circulation. The drug reduces the heart rate. Leuzea is part of a dietary supplement called Leuzea-P.

Vitamin complexes

Among the complex drugs, Complivit is recommended, which is taken three times a day, one tablet after meals.

Thiamine (B1) is involved in the activities of the body's main systems: cardiovascular, nervous and digestive. Affects growth and energy balance. A lack of vitamin B1 causes irritability, lack of appetite, increased fatigue and associated health disorders.

Cyanocobalamin (B12) increases protein synthesis and its accumulation in tissues, and is an effective anabolic agent.

Pyridoxine (B6) plays an important role in metabolism and normal functioning of the nervous system.

Ascorbic acid (C) is an antioxidant and reducing agent involved in metabolic processes.

B vitamins are available in injection form; as a rule, an ampoule contains 1 ml of a substance of 5% concentration. It is unacceptable to administer all vitamins simultaneously on one day - each vitamin is administered sequentially on a separate day, adhering to cyclicity. Injections are given intramuscularly; the administration of B1 and B6 may be somewhat painful.

Benefits and harms

Pharmacy supplements are a group of drugs with different pharmacological effects. Among the main positive actions are:

  • Improving blood circulation, increasing blood flow to the muscles.
  • Acceleration of metabolism.
  • Positive effect on anabolic processes.
  • Strengthening the heart muscle.
  • Removal of toxins from the intestines.
  • Improving the functioning of the liver and digestive tract.
  • Antioxidant action.
  • Stimulation of intracellular energy metabolism.
  • Replenishment of glycogen stores in muscles.
  • Strengthening energy potential.

Drugs cause harm if you ignore the instructions and use them contrary to contraindications. It is necessary to take a break between courses of administration so that the body’s sensitivity to additives does not decrease.

Diabeton MV

Diabeton MV is a pharmaceutical drug sold freely. One of the strongest anabolic steroids. As a medicine it is used as a pancreas stimulant in the complex treatment of diabetes mellitus. Bodybuilders use this drug to maintain a high level of anabolism during the off-season.

Available in the form of 30 mg tablets. They start with a dose of 30 mg per day, which, if necessary, in the next course (the course lasts one and a half to two months) can be increased to 60 mg. Diabeton MV should not be taken with other medications. Take it with breakfast once a day. The anabolic effect of diabeton is to stimulate the production of one of the anabolic hormones - insulin.

Tamoxifen

Tamoxifen is classified as an antiestrogen. The drug is used by bodybuilders to increase testosterone levels in the body, which blocks estrogen. Tamoxifen is used in combination with other drugs for the most effective effects in long courses, for at least 6-8 weeks. Tamoxifen becomes especially popular among bodybuilders during cutting, as it accelerates and enhances fat burning processes.

In cases where an athlete has a tendency to water retention due to the use of anabolic steroids, taking tamoxifen becomes mandatory. The drug is also valuable in bodybuilding because it allows the bodybuilder to effectively increase muscle density. Like any highly effective drug, tamoxifen has many side effects and contraindications, so it should be taken strictly as prescribed by a sports doctor.

Contraindications

Any, even the most harmless medicine, is in some cases prohibited for use. Medicines used in bodybuilding are no exception. Common contraindications:

  • Individual intolerance.
  • Severe dysfunction of the liver and kidneys.
  • Metabolic diseases.
  • For drugs that improve blood circulation - disorders of the blood coagulation system, pathology of the heart and blood vessels.

These are just some cases when taking medications from this group is contraindicated. Each drug has instructions that will outline all the negative effects.

Calcium glycerophosphate

Indications for taking glycerophosphate as a medicine are fatigue, dystrophy, and rickets. For a bodybuilder, the drug is valuable because it accelerates the absorption of protein and improves metabolism. Calcium glycerophosphate also helps increase appetite. While taking the drug, it is necessary to limit fats in the diet, replacing them with proteins.

It is recommended to take the drug in courses. There are no analogues of calcium glycerophosphate. The approximate daily dose of the drug is calculated based on the ratio of 100 mg for every 8 kilograms of weight. The daily dosage of calcium glycerophosphate is 1000 mg for a weight of 80 kg. It is divided into 5 doses, one tablet (200 mg). Time to take the drug: morning 2 hours before training. The course for weight lasts 1.5-2 months.

Goals and objectives

The number one goal in powerlifting is, of course, increasing strength, not gaining mass. This is the first difference. Although, again turning to the experience of Vladimir Kravtsov, one can quite reasonably assert that these goals are not mutually exclusive - “more “meat” - more weight on the bar.” But - only to a certain extent: what is good for representatives of the “heavy” categories is not entirely suitable for the “light” categories.

The second point is the increased load on ligaments and joints. In bodybuilding, it is also considerable, but “builders” work with submaximal and maximum weights for 1-3 repetitions per set, however, much less often than powerlifters.

Vinpocetine

Vinpocetine is a drug that corrects cerebral circulatory disorders. The active ingredient of the drug is apovincaminate. Vinpocetine has a direct effect on metabolic processes in brain tissue. It has a vasodilating effect and improves blood supply to brain tissue.

Vinpocetine increases tissue resistance to hypoxia, activates glucose utilization and the exchange of serotonin and norepinephrine in brain tissue. The drug prevents platelet aggregation, thereby reducing blood viscosity. Vinpocetine has a positive effect not only on the brain, but also on muscle tissue, promoting a better supply of oxygen and nutrients.

Can pharmaceutical drugs replace steroids?

First, let's find out how steroids work. Anabolics, or anabolic steroids, are artificial analogues of male sex hormones - testosterone and dihydrotestosterone. The principle of their work in bodybuilding is to enhance protein synthesis in skeletal muscles, accelerate metabolism, and disrupt protein breakdown processes. Due to this, the following effects are observed:

  • Significant and rapid increase in muscle mass up to 10 kg per month.
  • Increased strength, endurance and performance.
  • Reduction of fat layer.
  • An increase in blood oxygen concentration due to an increase in red blood cell mass.
  • Strengthening bones.

But the positive effects come with many side effects. Mood swings, skin rashes, severe disorders of the liver and cardiovascular system, sexual dysfunction and sterility are possible. Agree, such a health risk does not always justify the results.

Pharmaceutical drugs used in sports improve the functioning of all body systems. Due to this, anabolic processes are enhanced, the blood is better saturated with oxygen, digestion and removal of toxins are improved. They help the body adapt to regular physical activity and recover faster after it. They have side effects, but not as pronounced as anabolic steroids.

This type of doping does not have a targeted effect on muscle tissue, so it is impossible to achieve a quick and significant result, as when taking steroids. But their lower effectiveness is more than compensated by the absence of serious side effects and a positive effect on the entire body.
